Funny Texas Phrases
This week, we're packing up and preparing for our cross-country move from Michigan to Texas. We're all very excited, and a little nervous. Last night we went online to learn a little bit about our new home, and happened across a site with funny Texas phrases:
- Busier than a set of jumper cables at a redneck picnic.
- Busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest.
- As useful as a pogo stick in quicksand.
- That dog won't hunt. (means, it won't work)
- Don't squat with your spurs on.
- My cow died last night, so I don't need your bull.
- It's so hot, the trees are bribing the dogs.
- Hotter than a goat's behind in a pepper patch.
- He's all broth and no beans.

Ha! What part of Texas are you moving to?
Those are funny!--though you may not use them everyday. Here are a few Texanisms for everyday use:
"Mom--Jimmy tumped over the pot plant."
"Sarah, please put up (this means put away) your dirty boots in the mud room."
"Can I have a coke please? Sure! What kind--we have Roooot Beer, Sprite, Orange, but (sorry) no Coke!"
From a Minnesotan-turned-Texan :D
Moving to Hill Country! About 20 minutes north of San Antonio.
lol! Gotta say, I've been in TX for a year and haven't heard any of those. Of course, I am right off a military post, so that might make a difference.
That's such a beautiful area! Schliterbaun (a river fed water park in New Braunfels) is one of my favorite places ever!
I have lived in NW Texas for 8 years, and I've never heard any of those. We do say y'all, though! Anyway, I'm sure you will love Texas.

The hill country is fabulous, You will love it make sure you plan a trip to Garner state park on the FRIO river it is beautiful! We go every year.
Texas will be a new adventure. God will bless you and your wonderful family. After all the packing and unpacking...life will be "normal again". Hang in there, honey.
